When it comes to attendance the state law requires that the principal teacher, which is you keep attendance and submit it to Alabama Learning Academy. You are required by law to report to Alabama Learning Academy every absence that each child that’s enrolled in a church school misses a half a day or more during each school day of the YEAR! We require you to teach your child the number of days that the law requires, 180 days a year. With Alabama Learning Academy you shouldn’t have a problem with absent days when you have 365 days in total to teach those 180 days. In reality, there should be no missed days.
If you’re on a very strict schedule and you only teach during a set time of the year. Then this form is for you, but most of use do not have a problem because we make our schedule and it’s easy to make up a day or three.
What days we choose to teach, how often, and how long, this is up to you!
We do not require this, but for your own record, you should keep an attendance sheet for the year or semester. However, you want to do it. This way if it’s ever requested you can verify your days of teaching. We recommend this because it’s a protection for yourself if for some reason some nasty person calls CPS on your family because you’re home everyday with kids. CPS then calls truant officer they come out. Which you’d follow the procedure listed in our FAQ for dealing with Truant Officer/Public School Official. But, the superintendent could request something from you to verify your teaching. Just always be prepared! because you never know. None of our families have ever had any problems, but I will tell every family the same thing for their own protection! It’s your right to homeschool, but you have to be diligent.
